CASE REPORT: The treatment of hard and soft tissue defects associated with implant malpositions and failures is a complex issue that requires a multidisciplinary approach. This case reports the preliminary results from the treatment of an advanced peri-implant defect in the aesthetic area, where a stepwise approach combining the removal of two failing implants and multiple hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures was adopted. 6 months after implant reopening, stable peri-implant tissues with satisfactory function and aesthetics are observed, albeit a hyper-plastic soft tissue reaction occurred, which required an additional corrective procedure. Results from this case underline the delicate interplay that binds hard and soft tissue reconstructive interventions in the rehabilitation of atrophic edentulous crests in the aesthetic area.
