Clinicians are often faced with dilemmas when choosing abutments for implant supported restorations in the anterior zone. This presentation outlines the categories of implant abutments, and which are the specific abutment features that can affect the clinical outcomes. Crown design rationale is discussed, both for provisional, and definitive restorations. The choice of anterior abutment type is illustrated through clinical cases, with various clinical scenarios in the aesthetic zone.
Ioannis graduated from the Dental School of Athens and following that worked as a dentist at the Military Hospital of Athens as part of his military training. He then practiced general dentistry, prosthodontics, and implant dentistry in Athens, before moving to London. In 2018 he completed his 3-year Prosthodontic training at the Royal London Dental Hospital, and was awarded his Doctor of  Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) degree from Queen Mary University of London with a Distinction grade. He also completed the M Pros examination and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In 2022 he completed  a 2-year post graduate degree in Academic Practice aimed at enhancing teaching practice, and he was accepted as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
 He is a registered Specialist in Prosthodontics working privately in London, and a Clinical Lecturer in Prosthodontics at Queen Mary University of London. He is also involved in teaching of newly qualified dentists as part of their Dental Foundation scheme, and is an examiner for the Prosthodontic Diploma of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Ioannis attends national and international congresses regularly, keeping up to date with the latest evidence in Prosthodontics. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been awarded several prizes, including the British Society of Prosthodontics Oral Presentation Prize. He is an Fellow of the International Team for Implantology and a member of the British Dental Association.
