More information

Implant complications have become a more common occurrence in daily dental practice. Complications can be particularly devastating when presented in the aesthetic zone. Managing implant complications require a systematic approach which involves clear diagnoses and evaluation of the implant position and its surrounding structures. Based on these findings and desired restorative outcome, a treatment plan can be developed. In this case presentation, the featured patient was referred for the evaluation of two fully osseointegrated implants. Detailed assessment revealed heavily restored dentition, sub-optimal implant positions and significant loss of tissue volume, especially in soft tissue deficiency. Respecting the patient’s preference to avoid implant replacement, the agreed treatment plan involved the removal of one implant that was deemed unrestorable and the submergence of the other implant. This was followed by connective tissue grafting and the placement of tooth supported fixed partial dental prosthesis. This presentation will explain the rationale behind the comprehensive approach taken to remediate a compromised situation into an ideal aesthetic and functional outcome.
